The challenge

Staffing a game in youth and amateur sports involves several people: the organization that plans the games, the coordinators who fill the positions, the officials who referee, and the coaches whose teams play. The founder of MyOfficial wanted one app in which all of them can work together, from the schedule to the payment of the officials.

The solution

I built the app from the first version to store readiness, for iOS, Android and the web from one codebase. The founder tested along the way, and each round of feedback went into the next build.

• One app, four roles: officials, coordinators, organizations and coaches each have their own home screen and permissions, and one person can switch between several accounts.
• A full schedule in one go: organizations upload their existing spreadsheets, check the games and publish them. Teams, positions and pay per official are created at the same time.
• Games filled quickly: officials accept or decline invitations with one tap and can block the times they are not available. Coordinators see per day which positions are still open, and double bookings are flagged.
• Everyone informed: each location has a group chat per day for everyone involved, alongside direct messages, reminders and push notifications that are bundled into one message per person. A weather cancellation for a whole location takes one step.
• Clear payments: organizations see what each official is owed and mark it as paid, and officials see their earnings per month.
• Ready for the stores: account deletion, reporting and blocking of users, privacy and terms pages, and data that is only visible to the people it belongs to.

The result

MyOfficial has one app that covers the whole process, from importing a schedule to paying the officials, on phones and in the browser. The app is available in the App Store and Google Play.
